The town of Fort Erie is speaking out after comment from a political rally in Niagara Falls. Mayor Wayne Redekop says the Fort Erie Racetrack is not in trouble, and to say so is hurtful to the progress being made. Redekop is referring to comments out of PC Leader Doug Ford’s rally this week.
He says the milestones the track has reached come from the ongoing efforts of NDP MPP Wayne Gates and the Fort Erie Live Racing Track Consortium. Earlier this month, the Wynne government announced a 19-year commitment to the horse racing industry, including up to $105-million each year starting next spring. Redekop says the funding in a significant step toward ensuring the vitality of horse racing in Fort Erie.
