A local blogger who had his recording device taken during a regional council meeting will not face criminal charges from Niagara Regional Police.  A spokesperson for the NRP says they are keeping the digital recorder until a review from the Ontario Ombudsman is completed.

The incident saw the blogger’s recorder and a local newspaper reporter’s laptop taken after Niagara Regional council went into a closed meeting.  The ombudsman is looking into the seizure and is determining if going into the closed meeting  to discuss the conduct of a councillor was a violation of the Municipal Act.
